In-Home Problem Solver Training
Problem Solver Program
Canine Behavior Issues
This 4 lesson behavior problem solving program is designed to help teach you how to control, manage, correct and redirect your dog’s behavioral issues such as Aggression, Separation Anxiety, and Fear Disorders. The goal of this program is to custom design a dog training curriculum to meet your specific needs for dogs 6 months and older and show you how to handle your dog in a safe manner and help your dog overcome any developmental and genetic conditions. I will evaluate your situation, learn as much as I can about the concerns you’re having with your dog and give recommendations to immediately start the training process on the right foot. We will also discuss what you may or may not be doing that could be contributing to some of your problems which will hinder your ability to help your dog’s recovery and prevent you from moving forward with heathy interaction.
During each session, you will have the opportunity to apply what you learn from me as your personal dog training instructor to ensure your dog training success. I enjoy participating with your dog’s training and am available to talk via phone or email to answer questions you may have during a training program. We will take a “One Step at a Time” approach with the training procedures to ensure safety for all those participating and address all the problems instead of just the symptoms.
If you prefer to book one lesson at a time and “Pay-as-you-go” . . . It’s Your Choice!!
The initial meeting is an interactive discussion and note taking consultation to talk about your dog’s behavior and help you understand why these problems occur and why gaining respect from your dog is so important. We will discuss how dog owners unknowingly perpetuate the actions that cause the developmental behavior problems. We will also talk about what changes should occur to help the family and the dog transition into good foundational habits. If we have the time and are able to offer a “hands-on” demonstration, we will. Most of our active training with you and your dog starts with the second visit. (Lessons are bi-weekly)
The second visit starts with a short recap of our first meeting answering any questions. After this review, I will demonstrate hands on “Marker Training” techniques with you and/or your dog (if possible) so you learn how to communicate in a positive way to help your dog understand appropriate behavior. I will also teach you the correct techniques of how to reward your dog when they choose to response positively towards our training, as well as, how to safely correct unwanted behaviors your dog exhibits during your daily practice routines. These daily routines help your dog learn how to discern good and bad behavior the same way they learn in their natural pack setting. We will also discuss training tools that may assist you with the training process. This approach will help you establish the foundation needed to be the principal leader (care giver) in your home.
The third lesson focuses on demonstrating the next level of training, for example, “how to” follow through when giving direction, or “how to” time your signal markers and “how to” use any new training aids (if necessary) to assist you as you move forward. These operant conditioning behavior techniques (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operant_conditioning) are what you and your dog will need to prepare you for more realistic life scenarios which will allow your dog to become more acquainted with your new training routine and give you the comfort needed to practice on your own.
The fourth lesson combines all behavior training instruction, discussions, practice set-ups, and training routines to help prepare you and your dog for the next and very important step of training, social interaction or obedience training. Learning how to overcome canine behavior problems will empower you to move forward on your own and learn how to handle your dog in challenging and distractive situations. Once you have learned and have taken the time to practice how to control, manage or eliminate your dog’s behavior issues, then it will be easier for you to enjoy your dog’s overall behavior in the future. If you haven’t been able to enroll your dog in a basic obedience or advanced training program because of difficult behavior concerns, this program may allow you the option to do so. Rescued and Adopted Dogs
In addition to working with distressed puppies and adult dogs, we can’t forget our rescued and adopted dogs that also have unbalanced behavior problems. These dear friends should be cared for the same way, if not more, due to their unstable past. This program is also a wonderful way to help transition your newly adopted dog from a life of confusion to learning the basic fundamentals for socials skills, basic obedience and advanced training for a complete learning experience.
Dog Training Instruction will take place in the home before graduating to other social settings. You will learn how to build a healthy relationship with your dog as a companion when you teach your dog how to listen and trust your guidance. The lessons are a great investment and your family will come to enjoy the benefits of a pet companion through time and patience. Also in this program, you will receive written instruction, audio instruction as well as training videos to help you with your daily practice.
